Individual Therapy
What is individual therapy?
Individual therapy is a confidential, one-on-one relationship between you and a registered psychologist. It is a safe, supportive space to explore what's happening in your life—whether you're navigating emotional challenges, life transitions, relationship difficulties, or simply seeking a deeper understanding of yourself.
At Verity Psychology, our therapists are registered psychologists with advanced graduate training in the treatment of mental health concerns. Clinical therapy goes beyond providing a listening ear. It is a collaborative, evidence-based process that helps identify the patterns, experiences, and underlying factors contributing to your concerns, while equipping you with practical tools to create meaningful and lasting change.
Every person arrives with a unique story, which is why therapy is never one-size-fits-all. Together, we'll develop an individualized treatment plan based on your goals, strengths, and needs. Our psychologists draw from scientifically supported approaches—including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Eye Movement Desenstitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Somatic Therapy, Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT) and other evidence-based interventions—to provide care that is both compassionate and effective.
Many mental health professionals offer valuable counselling and support. Registered psychologists receive specialized training in diagnosis, case formulation, and the treatment of complex mental health conditions. This depth of clinical expertise allows us to understand not only what you're experiencing, but why—and to tailor treatment using approaches that have been shown through research to be effective.
Whether you're experiencing anxiety, depression, OCD, trauma, ADHD, burnout, grief, or are simply looking to better understand yourself, therapy offers an opportunity to build insight, develop resilience, and move toward a life that feels more aligned with your values.

Both provisional psychologists and registered psychologists have completed graduate-level education in psychology and are qualified to provide therapy. The primary difference is that provisional psychologists are completing a period of supervised clinical practice and meeting additional registration requirements before obtaining full registration. Throughout this process, they work under the guidance of an experienced registered psychologist, ensuring clients receive ethical, evidence-based care while benefiting from regular clinical consultation and supervision. Because they are still in this supervised stage of registration, provisional psychologists typically offer reduced fees, providing a more affordable option while maintaining a high standard of clinical care.

The relationship you have with your psychologist is one of the most important factors in successful therapy. We encourage you to read our clinicians' profiles to learn about their backgrounds, areas of expertise, and therapeutic approaches, and to consider who feels like the best fit for your needs and personality. We also offer a complimentary consultation call, giving you the opportunity to ask questions, discuss your goals, and get a sense of whether the psychologist feels like the right fit before beginning therapy.

You don't need to know which therapy approach is best before starting. Your psychologist will complete a thorough intake, work to understand your concerns and goals, and recommend an evidence-based treatment approach that is best suited to your individual needs. Many psychologists integrate techniques from multiple therapeutic modalities, tailoring treatment as therapy progresses to ensure you receive the most effective care.

There is no one-size-fits-all answer. The length of therapy depends on your individual goals, the nature and severity of your concerns, and how long those difficulties have been affecting your life. Some people find that a few sessions provide the support they need, while others benefit from longer-term therapy to work through more complex or longstanding challenges. Together, we'll regularly review your progress and tailor the pace of therapy to meet your needs.

Finding the right therapeutic fit is an important part of the therapy process, and it's okay if that fit isn't immediate. At Verity Psychology, we take a client-centred approach and continually monitor whether the therapeutic relationship and treatment approach are meeting your needs. Our psychologists are committed to practising within their areas of competence and will openly discuss any limitations in their expertise. If another clinician within our practice—or an external provider—is better suited to support your goals, we'll help facilitate a thoughtful referral so you receive the care that's right for you.

Yes! We offer secure virtual therapy sessions for clients across Alberta and British Columbia using a platform that complies with Canadian privacy and security standards for healthcare providers. Our psychologists are trained to provide high-quality clinical care through virtual therapy, allowing you to access professional support from the comfort and convenience of your own home. For many concerns, virtual therapy has been shown to be just as effective as in-person treatment.
